Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese both make yet more WNBA history

In addition to breaking another league record, Clark guided the Indiana Fever to a 92-75 victory against the Seattle Storm on Sunday.

The 22-year-old not only scored 23 points but also earned her 225th assist, breaking Ticha Penicheiro's 1998 record for the most assists by a rookie in WNBA history.

"I'll always be grateful that I got to pass someone as wonderful as her. She has become a true legend in our competition. Following the game, Clark, who leads the league with 8.3 assists per game, said, "It's really cool, but hopefully there are a lot more of those."
Penicheiro greeted the momentous occasion in a message on X, the platform that was once known as Twitter, during the second quarter of the match.

It's intended for records to be broken. It demonstrates development and evolution. Penicheiro said, "Can't think of a better player to break it." The Fever then uploaded a video of the former WNBA player thanking Clark, who had nine assists in the game and 232 for the season.

The record is the most recent in a long line of accomplishments for Clark during her debut season in the WNBA. She has previously set a record by recording a triple-double and by handing out 19 assists in a single game.
But much as in college, Clark's adversary Reese is matching her outstanding achievements.

In an 86-68 defeat to the Phoenix Mercury on Sunday, the rookie for the Chicago Sky also had 19 points and 20 rebounds, making her the first player in WNBA history to post 20 double-doubles in a single season.
Reese, who leads the league in rebounds per game (12.3), hit the milestone after only 27 games. According to ESPN, he is now just two double-doubles away from tying Tina Charles' record, which was established in 2010 for the most double-doubles in a rookie season.

The youngster had already shattered the WNBA record for the most straight double-doubles earlier in the season.
Following the Olympic break, the WNBA is back in full swing, and both Clark and Reese will be looking to guide their teams into the playoffs.

The next game for Clark's Fever (13–15) is against the Minnesota Lynx, while the following game for Reese's Sky (11–16) is against the Connecticut Sun.
It seems that more records will be broken this season the more the great rookies perform.
